By Bob Tupper Due to a major storm threatening the SP area on Sun with low 40 degree temps, strong winds, and heavy rain (maybe even some snow mix) officials called a special Sat morning driver meeting to propose switching the event to a single day format. An overwhelming majority of drivers approved the change with one 20 min qual session and 30 min timed races. Qualifying - dry track, cool temps - Siebenaler Womer Glenn Tupper Grimes Shields Kittell Carmody Bill Saltenberger Weisheit Phillips Rader Tammy Oswald Race results - mostly drying track Carmody Siebenaler Grimes Tupper Shields Kittell Saltenberger Weisheit Oswald Phillips Womer Rader There was light rain of varying intensity for 2 hrs before the vee race. About the 5 min signal the rain stopped. Carmody was on slicks. Phillips and Tupper on intermediates. Everyone else on rains, apparently guessing that the storm with real rain would shortly arrive. Carmody took the lead on the 1st lap and simply drove away. Womer, Siebenaler, and Grimes slowly fell back. Tupper spun on lap 1 falling to the back of the field. Rader had clutch failure and completed only 2 laps. Womer pulled in after 6 laps with engine problems. Phillips retired after 11 laps with some mechanical problem. Late in the race Grimes fell back from Sibenaler. Shields and Kittell battled for most of the race Saltenberger and Weisheit battled for the entire race. Tupper had a good drive moving back up thru the field to 4th place. There were some brief periods of sprinkles, but not enough to slow Carmody. The real rain all the others had bet on came about 45 mins after the race had finished. _________________ Bob Tupper Ed`s Motor problem was a piece of duct tape in the carb!
